What relevant goals (e.g. content standards, learning outcomes) will this design address?
• Visual Arts Strand I - Artistic Foundations: Standard 1: Demonstrate knowledge of the foundations of the art area.
- Benchmark #1: Analyze how the elements of visual art including color, line, shape, value, form, texture and space, principles such as repetition, pattern, emphasis, contrast and balance and contemporary art principles are combined to communicate meaning in the creation of, presentation of, or response to visual art works.
- Benchmark #2: Evaluate how the elements of visual art such as repetition, pattern, emphasis, contrast, balance or contemporary art principles are used in the creation of, presentation of, or response to visual artworks.
• Visual Arts Strand I - Artistic Foundations: Standard 2: Demonstrate knowledge and use of the technical skills of the art form integrating technology when applicable
- Benchmark #1: Integrate characteristics of the tools, materials, and techniques of a selected media in original artworks to support artistic purposes |

- The elements of visual arts and the principles of design that are basic language in traditional hands on studio art disciplines are applicable in the creation of computer-based artwork.
- The elements of art are line, color, value, shape, form, texture.
- The principles of design include contrast, balance, repetition / pattern, movement / rhythm, variety and unity
- Various computer software programs can be used in the creation of computer artwork.
- Computer software provides for the visual selection of color and value as opposed to the physical mixing of colors.
- Organization and saving of files on the computer now replaces the 'clean-up' strategies that were utilized in the traditional studio-based art class.
- Final viewing of artwork done in class will now be seen in presentation modes that involve looking at images on the computer screen, creating power point presentations, burning projects to a CD, viewing artwork as Smart Board / projector images, and physical exhibits of work by printing out hard copies of the work in class.

- How are different software programs used in the creation of artwork?
- How does one save their work and export it for viewing / assessing?
- How does one maximize the effectiveness of the images being made using the tools / programs that are being employed?
- How does one go about creating a successful image utilizing the following components: a) composition b) craftsmanship c) expressive qualities?
- How does one analyze the ways in which the elements of visual art, the pricnciples of design and contemporary art principles, are combined to communicate the meaning of, or responmse to computer art works?
- How does one discuss the processes involved in the making of the work relating to the following: a) steps b) software functions c) techniques d) personal decision making?
- How does one discuss the intent of the image in relation to the steps / techniques employed in its creation?
- How does one present, exhibit, publish or demonstrate collections of artworks for different audience or occasions?
