History
Park View Early Childhood Center in Champlin and Peter Enich Kindergarten Center in Anoka were originally designed to reduce the enrollment crunch at overcrowded elementary schools during years when the district was growing rapidly.
Park View was built in 1995 to serve morning (a.m) and afternoon (p.m.) kindergarten classes. The center originally served students from the Riverview, Oxbow Creek and Dayton elementary attendance areas from 1995 to 2002. During attendance boundariy changes in 2002, this was changed to Oxbow Creek, Dayton and Champlin.
The school's mascot was a panda that many Park View students affectionately called, "Pandy" (see photos below of Pandy the Panda at Park View's May 1 celebration).
Approximately 6,000 kindergarten students have come through Park View, said Marilyn McKeehen, who has served as Park View's principal since it opened in 1995. The first group of kindergarteners that attended the school in 1995 graduated in 2008.
Moving Forward
Peter Enich and Park View students will return to their neighborhood schools and attend kindergarten there. Park View (and a portion of Jackson) will be used for elementary students from both Champlin Elementary and Riverview Specialty School for Math and Environmental Science (to be known as Champlin-Brooklyn Park Academy for Math and Environmental Science ) beginning with the 2010-11 schol year.
